Wild One

for janay gideon

He marks the woods
with his Canadian pee,
the black bear balanced on one knee.

He slips on ice
but catches prey,
Stephen Vince Benet.

He munches frozen grass
in Dali’s melted time
and tree limbs rhyme.

And you, my sweet Janay, sitting in your Rambler,
I endeavored to caress
what God put in your dress.
