Planisphere

in Ashbery’s new poems
he sounds like my abuela

with no teeth
yet with a memory so vivid

the past comes to life
my abuela made

the same patchwork quilt over & over
endowing each one with the same beauty

I wish I could say the same thing
about Ashbery

after reading the latest Asbery poems
in the November/December 2009 issue
of The American Poetry Review
