The Poet’s Curse

When he saw Frost attempt to read a poem
at the Kennedy Inauguration,

then and there, he decided
that he would give up poetry.

Oh, Lord, decisions made at the age of twelve
are rarely great decisions.

He thought, must all poets bear winter like this?
Where is the spring? Where is the spring?

Does this wind always blow so cold?
Is a poet always old and gray?

Yet, it was not long before the foolish art
took hold of him again.

I like the way the 12-year-old poet-to-be associates being old and gray with being a poet.
you need to be that way to be a poet?
poetry gets you that way?

and yet the a poet, on a certain level, is passive, because the "foolish art" takes hold of him.

Thanks for the update on Omar Salinas.
Love and prayers his way.
