Homage To The Early Chicano Poets

Have pen will travel
throughout the land Aztlan,
my name is Joaquin, my name is Juan,

my name is Dolores, my name is Maria,
I speak the words
that must be spoken.

I have to bite what has to be bitten,
I have to smite what has to be smitten,
I have to write what has to be written.

Have pen will travel
there are so many wrongs to right,
so much darkness to light.

I am Joaquin and I have a pen,
don’t ask me why, don’t ask me when.
The rest of you can show your faces now!
